Ultimate Historical Hair Care Guide | Straight, Curly & Kinky

Updated: Nov 17, 2023

Are you interested in achieving long, thick and healthy hair? Look no further! In this informative video, I'll be your guide to historical hair care practices with routines for all hair types.

I’m Katherine, and since the overwhelming response to my previous video on natural historical hair care, I've received numerous requests for personalized tips, especially for those with straight or finer hair.

Today, we'll delve into natural techniques rooted in historical hair care that can help you maintain your hair's natural oils, reduce breakage and improve scalp health. By following these methods without relying on expensive chemical-laden products, you can achieve longer, thicker and healthier hair.

My personal routine for natural hair care involves using essential ingredients like rhassoul clay, oils and apple cider vinegar rinses. I also prefer finger detangling my mostly dry hair. Throughout this video, we'll discuss how you can customize these fundamental principles to suit any type of hair.

📚 Access the written versions of these routines by downloading the PDFs below!

Please note that while I personally follow a "no poo" routine using only rhassoul clay for cleansing purposes; shampoo is not necessarily “evil.” If you’d like to use shampoo in addition to clay washing or if you require a conditioner, I have some recommendations for you. You can find the suggestions linked below.

Let's begin our exploration of customized haircare routines for different hair types like curly, straight, wavy and kinky. We will also delve into adapting natural haircare methods such as clay washing and oil treatments to cater to the specific requirements of each hair type. So, let's start this journey!

These hair routines are based on generalizations of each hair type. They don't take into account individual factors such as porosity, hair thickness, strand coarseness, or oiliness. Use these routines as a starting point. These routines also don't address the frequency of washing - if you have been washing more frequently than once ever 5-7 days, you may want to gradually space these out. Key word: gradually. Protective styles between washes are a good idea for all hair types. For more info see "Protective Styles" videos.

I've been quite intrigued by the ideas you have presented about decreasing washing and using a "no poo" routine, but I have one question that you have not addressed in your very informative videos. So from Mom to Mom, how do you deal with food in your hair? My 1 year old uses my hair right behind my ear as her handle to keep herself steady while I'm carrying her around so that area is always getting sticky. Would that be an ACV rinse situation?
